Open Door

B=Bentley (Dog puppet), D=Don (Leader)

This script was used in family worship service to introduce a theme on “Jesus is the door or gate ”. John 10.7, John 14.6, Mt.7.13

B. Knock, knock

D. Who’s there?

B. Doris.

D. Doris who?

B. Door is locked. That’s why I’m knocking.

I can laugh about it now but it wasn’t funny at the time.

D. What do you mean?

B. Well you see at our house we’ve got a cat door in our backdoor. The cat has long gone to a better place (away from me!) but the door is open all the time. I just push the flap and I’m inside to the warm fire near Mr. Barker’s feet. Except…(looking embarrassed)

D. What happened?

B. Let’s just say, I’m stuck for an answer. Lucky I’m not a Doberman Pincher. (aside-Although it was pinching). Half of me was in and half of me was out. It was very embarrassing. Of course I had to call for immediate backup, so I barked as loud as I could till Mr. Barker came to see what was wrong.

D. But Bentley you said you’d been through that door before.

B. Lot’s of times, but you probably haven’t noticed that I’ve put on a little bit of weight over winter with my thick furry coat.

D. I’m glad you were rescued but it’s interesting that you should be here in church this morning Bentley because we are thinking about what Jesus had to say about “doors” and “gates”.

B. And cat doors?

D. In the Bible we see that Jesus wants people to open their lives and really get to know him while they still have the opportunity.

B. My mum used to say that when “opportunity knocks loudest it’s usually the relatives”.

D. Jesus wants people everywhere to be his forever friends.

B. You know what’s happened now after the “door debacle”?

D. No what?

B. Now I’ve been put on a strict exercise program and I’m going once a week to “Woof Watchers”. Pretty soon I’ll be through that door again in no time.

D. Hey I’ve got a question for you. Knock. Knock.

B. Who’s there?

D. Closure.

B. Closure who?

D. Close your mouth my friend, it’s time to finish.

B. Got to run. Bye.
